Increasing friction between your hands and your pistols grip is unquestionably one of the most important principals you can apply to increase performance with a handgun.  Besides technique adjustments and grip strengthening, adding a silicone carbide grip treatment to your handgun is the most effective, durable and permanent way to add friction to your gripping surface.

Other common attempts to add friction include stippling, skateboard tape and creams such as pro grip.  Although stippling has its place, if you are looking for the ultimate gripping surface, this is not it.  Stippling is still plastic, and no matter how much you alter the surface, it will wear and become slippery when wet.  That means when you are out on the range in the dead of summer or in the rain, stippling will offer little or no improvement.  Concealed carry is the only situation where stippling might have the upper hand on silicone carbide where printing might become an issue.  Skateboard tape can be effective but is nowhere close to a permanent solution.  It is inherently prone to peeling and, when it gets hot out, it will loose it’s integrity and move around a lot.  Obviously, not every situation gives you the chance to chalk up or apply some pro grip.  Also, when it comes down to it, these products are actually better at increasing skin to skin friction between your strong and support hand.  These solutions definitely have their place in the competition world, and can be used in conjunction with silicone carbide.  However, they can not be relied upon in the field.  For these reasons, if you want the absolute best gripping surface, silicone carbide is in a class of its own.

At Brekke Custom, meticulous attention is paid to surface preparation prior to treatment for the best possible adhesion.  Also, extensive testing has been done to ensure the best adhesives are used for this application.  Silicone carbide can be applied to any polymer grip, as well as most grip panels on guns like 1911s and CZ SP01/Shadows.  Building up the grip is also an option, for an additional cost and on a case by case basis.

Grit options are as follows.

45 Grit – Most aggressive.

60 Grit – Medium aggressive.  Good option if you are worried about your hands.

90 Grit – Less aggressive.  Still better than stippling.
